Who should sign up?Basically anyone who has interest in music and wants something out of the norm like the usual Piano or Strings lesson.
-
What kind of programme does Stage Artistes provide? We provide a range of Woodwind and Brass instrument programmes such as Clarinet, Flute, Oboe, Trumpet and French Horn. There are more to come!
-
What would be a good age to start learning a Woodwind/ Brass instrument?Every child learns differently, a good time to start is when your child is able to listen and follow directions. Due to the nature and weight of holding and handling the woodwind and brass instruments, your child has to be physically able to hold the instrument. Trial classes are available for your child to explore which instrument is suitable for them.
-
How are the lessons at Stage Artistes structured? Here at Stage Artistes, we want to tailor our lessons to suit your learning needs. We offer Individual Lessons, Buddy Lessons and Small Group Classes of 3 - 4 pax.
-
Where and How are the lessons held? You can choose to have the lessons to be held at your home, the teacher’s home studio or as an online lesson such as zoom classes. However, during the current COVID-19 situation, lessons will be given online only.
-
What can I expect from the lessons? Does it cover different topics?Everyone has a different learning curve. Our experienced instructors will discuss with you and come up with lesson plans, goals and what to expect over the series of 12 lessons. In short, your lessons will be tailored to suit your learning goals.
-
Do I need to have any experience in music/ prior music background?Absolutely…. NOT! We’d love to guide fresh learners right from the start, as it gives us the opportunity to start you off on your learning journey with the right fundamentals of the instrument.
-
How is it different learning from Stage Artistes’ instructors, instead of the traditional school bands?"Stage Artistes instructors are experienced in giving individual and small group lessons. Structured programmes are planned over a period of 12 lessons and the instructors can focus on individual students and chart their own progress.
-
Are lessons available for all instruments? If not, will there be consideration for lessons to be made available for other instruments in the future?"Currently we are starting with 5 instruments, but are constantly widening our pool of instructors for other instruments too. Write to us if you have a specific instrument you’d like to learn and we will try to arrange it for you!
-
Will my child be assigned to practise at home?We believe in assigning homework to our students as it is a way for them to practice what is being taught in class and practice makes perfect! We live by the belief “Don’t practice until you get it right, practice until you can’t get it wrong’’. However, we understand that students may be overwhelmed with other commitments and if you do not wish for your child to be assigned homework, do let your instructor know.
-
It is difficult to get my child to practice. What can I do?Students will naturally practice when they find the joy in learning. You are encouraged to sit in their lessons to take down notes that will help them during their practice sessions. Don’t make practice an obligation, be their cheerleader and their support. Listen to them and encourage them on their progress. Make sure to ask them how their lessons went. They would be excited to play and show off their new skills to you!
-
Are there trial classes?Trial classes are only available for new students who do not have an idea of what instrument to pick up. Sign up for a trial class and we will liaise with you! If you already play a Woodwind or Brass instrument, and are looking to improve your skills, but are unsure about learning with us, we would recommend you to sign up and try us out for 2 lessons to see if you enjoy and benefit from the lessons. Eventually when you choose to sign up for the course of 12 lessons, these 2 lessons can be offset from the full course of 12 lessons.
-
Will my child be given opportunities to perform?Yes! We believe in providing a platform for performance as it provides motivation to the students and something for them to practice and look forward to. They will get to experience ensemble playing with our instructors and peers. This will encourage the students to listen and non-verbally communicate with each other to create music as a team.
-
Are your instructors qualified? All our instructors are graduates from renowned music schools all around the world. They are carefully selected for their niche expertise, passion, and beliefs in providing quality education for the students. Do read up more on them on our website.
-
How often will I get feedback from instructors?Speak to our friendly instructors and they will keep you updated on your child’s progress. Also, a Student Progress report will be sent to you at the end of each registered course.
-
Do I need to have an instrument in order to participate in the sessions?Yes! But if you do not have an instrument, fret not - we can direct you on how to rent/purchase one.
-
What is your cancellation/ replacement class policy for Woodwind and Brass Instrumental Lessons? Our cancellation policy for the lessons works on a case by case basis. All cancellation enquiries should be done via Stage Artistes and not the respective instrument instructors one month before the next lesson commence in the form of email or whatsapp. For replacement classes, Stage Artistes offers a substitute instructor to cover lessons, if the student wants a replacement by the same teacher, we allow a replacement of up to 2 lessons for each booking of 12 lessons within the time frame of 4 months depending on the availability of our instructors. For Individual students: You can reschedule your lessons if you inform Stage Artistes 48-72 hours prior to the arranged lesson, otherwise there shall be no refunds of any lessons missed. Cancelling in advance allows us to offer another student the time slot as all of our teachers are highly sought after. For Buddy and Small Group Classes: A recap of the previous lesson will be done during each new session. We will also pass the materials from the previous lesson to the absentees to ensure that they are able to keep up with the pace. However if more than half the class are not attending for that lesson, the whole class shall be rescheduled and the students will be notified in advance. For Boot Camps: As there are many students we cater to, write to us and we will discuss what works best for your child .
-
What if I had to cancel/reschedule the lesson last minute as I was sick, had family matters etc.? Will I still be charged for the lesson?"We will try our best to be as flexible as we can as we understand that unforeseeable circumstances do happen at unexpected times. However, we do need to be informed at least 12 hours in advance and judging on a case by case basis, a review will be made to see if a replacement lesson can be arranged for. No refunds shall be made for missed lessons that are not communicated in advance with Stage Artistes.
-
What if I turn up late for lessons, will the time be made up?"If you are late for lessons, it is up to the instructor’s discretion as they are busy individuals who usually have lessons back to back. However, if our instructors are late, they would definitely make up the time for you.
-
When can my child take examinations?Depending on the progress of your child, the instructor will communicate with you and your child to prepare them for examinations. Preparing for examinations is a process which requires time and hard work - Mentally, Physically and Emotionally.
-
Do you prepare students for examinations?Yes, when the child is ready for examinations, our instructors will advise you. However, at Stage Artistes, we believe that examinations are not a true test of ability. Learning music should be an enjoyable journey!
