CHESTER KANG
Bassoon
Born in 1988 in Singapore, at the age of 13, Chester Kang received his first bassoon lessons and first orchestral experience as a member of Singapore National Youth Orchestra. In 2005 he was awarded with Best Performance Award in the Woodwind section of the Singapore National Youth Orchestra after the orchestra won the 1st Prize in Orchestral Competition of the 34th International Youth Music Festival Vienna. He began his music studies with Prof. Jinmin Zhang at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, National University of Singapore and continued his Masters' degree at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Rostock with Catherine Larsen-Maguire. During his studies in Singapore and Germany he played in various orchestras, such as the Lyric Opera Singapore, Metropolitan Festival Orchestra Singapore, Norddeutsche Philharmonie Rostock, Classical Philharmonic Hamburg and Philharmonic Orchestra Vorpommern and many more. During his studies in Germany, from year 2015-2017, he was under the internship program and work regularly with the Norddeutsche Philharmonie Rostock. With his passion for chamber music, he plays in a various chamber music group such as the Mecklenburg Wind Academy(under the guidance of Gregor Witt, Berlin Staatskapelle solo oboist), Kantatenorchester St. Johannis, ensemble Hemingway of HMT Rostock and he is also the founder of C.L.A.P. Bassoon Ensemble. In the year 2017, he performed Mozart Concertante für Bläserquartet as a soloist with Mecklenburgische Staatskapelle Schwerin. Recently in 2018, he premiered a newly written concerto for bassoon and orchestra composed by Korean female composer Jeogmin Seo , in Germany with Norddeutsche Philharmonie Rostock.
