ALEXIS SEAH

Saxophone

Singaporean-born saxophonist Alexis Seah Hee Cheng is an avid performer who had presented recitals in Asia, United States, Europe, and Australia. She graduated from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) with Diploma in Music and Bachelor of Music with Honours. After receiving her undergraduate studies in Singapore, Alexis went on to pursue her graduate studies in the United States. She earned her Master of Music in Saxophone Performance from Oklahoma State University and is currently pursuing her Doctor of Musical Arts at the University of Oklahoma under the tutelage of Jonathan Nichol. Alexis primary teachers also include Jeffery Loeffert, Kyle Horch, and Leslie Wong. 

 

As an active chamber musician, Alexis co-founded the Xin Saxophone Quartet in 2016 and Codex Quartet in 2019. Xin Saxophone Quartet have commissioned multiple works for the saxophone quartet from mostly Singaporean composers. In 2018, they presented a program of works by Singaporean composers at the 18th World Saxophone Congress in Croatia with the generous support of National Arts Council (Singapore). Codex Quartet is a highly competitive quartet, consisting of members from the University of Oklahoma saxophone studio. Codex has represented the studio in multiple competitions such as competing as a semi-finalist at the North American Saxophone Alliance Quartet Competition, national finalist at the Music Teachers National Association Chamber Music Competition, and quarter-finalist of the 47th Annual Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. 

 

The highlights of her musical journey include appearing as a guest soloist with Orchestra Collective at the Esplanade Concert Hall, Singapore, competing as a finalist at the Asia Pacific Saxophone Academy Solo Competition, Thailand, and winning the state round of Music Teachers National Association Young Artist Competition (Oklahoma).
